DOJ Warns California Officials Over Threats to Arrest or Expose ICE Agents

The department ordered top Democrats to preserve records, signaling possible charges after calls to detain federal officers.

Overview

  • Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sent letters to Gov. Gavin Newsom, Nancy Pelosi, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, calling their posture an “apparent criminal conspiracy” and instructing them to preserve communications.
  • Attorney General Pam Bondi said she will investigate and charge officials who direct arrests or doxxing of federal agents, naming Pelosi, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
  • U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli warned that arresting or impeding federal officers performing their duties is illegal and said anyone who “touches” agents would be arrested.
