The DOJ has told Manhattan federal judges that transcripts with only FBI/NYPD testimony should be unsealed under public interest standards.

Overview

  • The memorandum states that the Epstein grand jury heard testimony exclusively from an FBI agent during its June–July 2019 sessions.
  • It adds that Maxwell’s grand jury in 2020 and 2021 featured testimony from the same FBI agent and a New York Police Department detective assigned to an FBI task force.
  • The department argues that most transcript material mirrors evidence already public from trials and civil litigation.
  • DOJ officials say they have notified all but one of the victims referenced in the grand jury records.
  • The request now awaits a decision by Southern District judges who will apply Second Circuit precedent allowing release based on public interest alone.
