Overview
- DogeOS launched a public testnet on September 30, 2026, that lets developers deploy Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and pay gas fees in test DOGE.
- The live trial uses a permissioned sequencer, a set of validators, a trusted execution environment, and a Security Council to check state and process transactions instead of Dogecoin miners.
- DogeOS submitted the OP_CHECKZKP change to Dogecoin Core in July 2025 to add native ZK‑proof verification but the proposal and its reference implementation remain unactivated and under development.
- Several teams are building on the testnet, including projects for trading, lending, a CDP stablecoin, prediction markets and games, but deposits use testnet DOGE and individual apps have separate development timetables.
- Mainnet timing, bridge mechanics for moving real DOGE in and out of apps, liquidity and real user demand are unresolved risks that mirror past memecoin app failures even as the Dogecoin Foundation has publicly endorsed the project.
