DogeOS Opens Public Testnet for EVM-Compatible zk-Rollup on Dogecoin

The testnet lets developers run Ethereum-style smart contracts paid in DOGE, relying on permissioned operators until a Dogecoin Core change enables native proof verification.

Overview

  • DogeOS opened a public testnet on Sept. 30, 2026 that runs an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup and uses test DOGE to pay transaction fees.
  • The current security model depends on a permissioned sequencer, an authorized validator set, a trusted execution environment, and an appointed Security Council rather than Dogecoin miners verifying ZK proofs.
  • Multiple teams are already building on the testnet, including projects for lending (Superposition Finance), decentralized trading (Derps, Barkswap), a collateralized stablecoin (USDoge), prediction markets (Snag), and games (Doge Escape, PlaysOut).
  • DogeOS submitted the OP_CHECKZKP proposal to Dogecoin Core in July 2025 to enable native proof verification and submitted a draft implementation in December 2025, but that change is unfinished and DogeOS has not set a mainnet launch date.
  • Adoption will hinge on practical factors such as bridge reliability, published operator responsibilities, sufficient liquidity in DeFi apps, and whether real users repeatedly move DOGE into and out of the layer; past memecoin app rollouts like Dogechain and Shibarium show early inflows can fade without sustained utility.
