Overview
- DogeOS opened a public testnet on September 30, 2026 that runs a zero-knowledge rollup compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine so developers can use familiar smart-contract tools.
- The network charges gas in DOGE but currently enforces state changes with validator signatures, a trusted execution environment, and a permissioned sequencer rather than native proof checks on Dogecoin.
- DogeOS submitted the OP_CHECKZKP proposal to Dogecoin Core in July 2025 to add native ZK-proof verification and reduce those centralized trust points, but that protocol upgrade has not been implemented.
- Several projects including Barkswap, Superposition Finance and Derps have started building and testing on the public testnet while DogeOS says it will publish a mainnet timeline after hitting further development milestones.
- The project is backed by the MyDoge team and a $6.9 million May 2025 funding round led by Polychain Capital, and its success could raise DOGE demand if apps and users move from testnet experiments to mainnet use.
