Dog Rescued After 200-Foot Fall Down Icy Lake Tahoe Waterfall

A search and rescue team, aided by a drone and an ice climber, saved the injured dog and reunited him with his owner.

Moscow, a mixed-breed dog, fell 200 feet down Cascade Falls near Lake Tahoe during a hike with his owner on January 25, 2025.
The dog's owner called 911, and emergency responders instructed him not to attempt a dangerous descent to rescue Moscow himself.
A search and rescue team, with help from a drone, located Moscow at the base of the falls, where a passing ice climber was already tending to him.
Rescuers secured the injured dog in a harnessed backpack and carried him out of the icy terrain to safety before transporting him to an emergency veterinarian.
Moscow sustained fractures but is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery, according to updates from local authorities.
