Emmy Award-Winning Animator Peter Hastings to Direct Adaptation of Best-Selling Children's Graphic Novel Series

  • Universal and DreamWorks Animation announced the release of an animated feature adaptation of Dav Pilkey's best-selling children's graphic novel series 'Dog Man' on January 31, 2025.
  • The film will be directed by Emmy award-winning animator Peter Hastings, who previously adapted Pilkey's 'Captain Underpants' into two animated series and a movie special.
  • 'Dog Man' tells the story of a human-dog hybrid police officer who protects the community from his arch-foe Petey the Cat, until the arrival of an adorable kitten-clone disrupts their rivalry.
  • Since its debut in 2016, the 'Dog Man' series has sold over 60 million copies through publisher Scholastic, making it one of the most valuable comic-based IPs developed this century.
  • A previous film adaptation of 'Captain Underpants' in 2017 grossed over $125 million worldwide on a budget of $38 million.
