Overview
- Spud, a Staffordshire bull terrier–type dog, was discovered on July 29 in a crate by a field entrance at Frankby Stiles in the Wirral with a note saying he was a loving house dog the owner could not keep after failed rehoming attempts.
- He was taken by a finder to Jackson’s Animal Rescue, assessed at a Chester veterinary practice, and then transferred to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital.
- Examinations found overgrown claws growing into his pads, fur loss, and a low body-condition score, though staff described him as gentle and affectionate.
- He is now being fostered by a veterinary nurse for continued care and recovery.
- Spud was microchipped but the registered phone number did not work, with inquiries ongoing, as the RSPCA cites survey data showing 52% of pet owners worry about vet bills and urges people not to abandon animals.
