Dodgers Urge Rōki Sasaki to Show Progress in Rehab as Return Timeline Slips

The Dodgers plan a patient rehab focused on restoring velocity.

Overview

  • In his Aug. 14 Triple-A rehab outing, Sasaki worked two innings with a fastball around 92–94 mph and threw 25 strikes on 41 pitches.
  • Manager Dave Roberts said the team needs improved velocity and results by the third or fourth rehab appearance, emphasizing that roster spots will go to the 13 best pitchers.
  • MLB.com’s Sonja Chen reported Sasaki may stay on rehab beyond early September to rebuild workload and confidence given the club’s depth.
  • Los Angeles has set no firm timetable for activation as it continues a six-man rotation led by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw and Shohei Ohtani.
  • Sasaki has not pitched in the majors since May due to a right shoulder impingement after opening with a 4.72 ERA and a 24-to-22 strikeout-to-walk line in 34.1 innings.
