Dodgers Sign Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to One-Year, $23.5M Deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to a one-year, $23.5 million contract, with $8.5 million of the salary deferred to be paid out from 2030 to 2039.
Hernandez, a former All-Star and Silver Slugger, has hit 147 home runs over 3002 plate appearances since the start of the 2018 season.
Hernandez's signing pushes the Dodgers' payroll to around $270 million, well over the Competitive Balance Tax’s highest penalty threshold of $297M.
The signing of Hernandez is part of the Dodgers' aggressive offseason, which has seen them spend just under $1.067 billion on free agents alone, including a record-breaking $700 million contract for Shohei Ohtani and a $325 million contract for Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Hernandez is expected to play primarily in left field, complementing an outfield that already includes left-handed hitters James Outman and Jason Heyward.
