Overview
- The Dodgers placed Dalton Rushing on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sept. 5 after his right elbow flared up during a pregame throwing session Sunday and he was scratched from the lineup.
- Manager Dave Roberts said imaging showed the partial UCL tear in Rushing’s right elbow was aggravated and that the club does not expect him to catch again this season.
- In the corresponding roster move the Dodgers recalled Triple-A catcher Eliezer Alfonzo to provide depth behind Will Smith and Hunter Feduccia.
- Rushing returned Sept. 1 as a hitting-only option after nearly a month on the IL for a partial UCL tear, and he appeared in four games with four at-bats before the new setback.
- Rushing’s breakout season (.249/.332/.466 with 12 homers) makes his limited role a late-season concern because the club values his left-handed bat and his injury now clouds whether he will be available for the postseason even as a pinch-hitter.
