Overview

  • After six scoreless innings from starters Blake Snell and Jesús Luzardo, Los Angeles strung together hits in the seventh to seize a multi-run lead.
  • Will Smith, easing back from a right-hand hairline fracture and not in the starting lineup, delivered a pivotal two-RBI single as a pinch hitter in the seventh.
  • Shohei Ohtani followed with an RBI single, capping a four-run frame that began with a Teoscar Hernández single and a Freddie Freeman double.
  • Roberts reiterated that Ohtani will not be used out of the bullpen and is penciled in to start a potential Game 5 on seven days’ rest.
  • The Dodgers also took Game 1, 5-3, on Hernández’s late three-run homer, and the series heads to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 on TBS after a travel day.
