Doctors Dismiss Deepinder Goyal’s ‘Gravity Aging’ Idea as Unfounded

Clinicians call for attention to proven hallmarks of ageing rather than a gravity-based explanation.

Overview

  • Goyal outlined a “Gravity Aging Hypothesis” on November 15, claiming lifelong gravitational pull reduces cerebral blood flow and accelerates brain ageing, which he presented as an open-source idea shared in a personal capacity.
  • Hepatologist Dr Cyriac Abby Philips labeled the theory “reductionist” and scientifically untenable, urging investment in testable ageing biology such as genomic instability, telomere dynamics, epigenetics and proteostasis.
  • Philips also suggested the posts could foreshadow a commercial device from Goyal’s ventures, a claim reported as speculation that Goyal has not confirmed.
  • Neurologist Dr Vinit Suri countered the premise by highlighting cerebral autoregulation, noting that posture changes do not deprive the brain of blood flow and that ageing reflects complex cellular and genetic processes.
  • Critiques cited spaceflight studies showing microgravity-related fluid-shift brain changes that reverse on return to Earth, while public reaction on X skewed skeptical and no new peer-reviewed evidence supporting the hypothesis has been published.
