Overview

• The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found consultant anaesthetist Dr Suhail Anjum committed serious misconduct after leaving a patient under general anaesthetic at Tameside Hospital in September 2023.
• The tribunal determined his fitness to practise is not impaired and assessed the risk of repetition as very low.
• No sanction will be imposed at this stage after the panel concluded a public finding was sufficient to uphold professional standards.
• Anjum admitted the allegations, expressed remorse, was dismissed by Tameside and Glossop NHS Trust in February 2024, and has since returned to Pakistan while seeking to resume work in the UK.
• The hearing will reconvene in Manchester on Tuesday to decide whether to issue a formal warning on his registration.
