Doctor Who Illegally Supplied Matthew Perry Ketamine Gets 30 Months in Federal Prison

A judge said Salvador Plasencia did not provide the fatal dose yet fed the actor’s addiction, as four co-defendants who pleaded guilty await sentencing.

Overview

  • U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett sentenced Plasencia to 30 months, plus two years of supervised release and a $5,600 fine, making him the first of five defendants sentenced in the case.
  • Plasencia pleaded guilty in July to four felony counts of distributing ketamine, after prosecutors agreed to drop other charges; they sought a 36‑month term and noted he faced up to 40 years if convicted at trial.
  • Court filings say he supplied roughly 20 vials, lozenges and syringes over about two weeks, injected Perry at multiple locations, and left supplies with the actor’s untrained assistant while texting that Perry was a “moron” who could be exploited for money.
  • Judge Garnett emphasized Plasencia did not supply the ketamine that killed Perry but said he exploited the star’s vulnerability, as Perry’s mother, stepfather and other family members delivered emotional victim impact statements.
  • Four others who pleaded guilty await sentencing, including dealer Jasveen Sangha, whom prosecutors link to the fatal dose, as well as assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, Dr. Mark Chavez and Erik Fleming; Perry’s death was ruled an accidental overdose from the acute effects of ketamine.
