- New York City’s Department of Buildings placed a partial stop-work order at 750 Third Avenue after inspectors found welded splices and other unapproved modifications to several steel columns and could not locate city approval.
- SL Green, the owner, said the condition differed from submitted plans, that there are no structural issues, that it is working with the licensed engineer of record, and that it has asked the DOB to rescind the partial stop.
- The order halts steel work above the eighth floor on the 34-story overbuild that is being converted into roughly 678–680 apartments in a project valued at about $805 million.
- The pause is the latest enforcement step after steel columns buckled at the former Pfizer conversion on July 7, which prompted evacuations and emergency shoring and led the DOB to intensify inspections of other conversions.
- Two other Manhattan conversions were also affected this month: 222 Broadway remains fully stopped while engineers explain wrapped repairs to cracked concrete beams, and 77 Water Street briefly paused for safety violations before being cleared to resume.
