Overview

  • DMK delegation led by N. R. Elango pressed the poll panel to accept Aadhaar and ration cards for verifying date and place of birth during Bihar’s voter roll overhaul.
  • The Election Commission said the Aadhaar proposal is sub-judice and will examine four of DMK’s five recommendations on electoral roll updates.
  • The commission must submit its counter-affidavit to the Supreme Court by July 21 and is preparing for similar voter list revisions across India by early 2026.
  • DMK urged enforcement of an EC notification to delete names of deceased voters based on registry data without requiring Form 7 submissions.
  • Additional demands included improved coordination between Booth-Level Officers and party agents, translations of EC materials into Tamil and other languages and reverting to the former postal ballot counting process.
