DMK MLA K. Ponnusamy Dies at 74 After Cardiac Arrest in Tamil Nadu

  • He complained of chest pain on Thursday morning, was taken to Kolli Hills Government Hospital, then arrived at a private Namakkal hospital on ventilator support at 7:05 a.m., where CPR failed and he was declared dead at 7:30 a.m., according to the hospital.

  • He represented the Senthamangalam constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes, serving from 2006 to 2011 and again after winning in 2021.
  • He began his career in the AIADMK before joining the DMK, contesting the seat in 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021, with Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and other leaders issuing condolences and noting his work for tribal communities.
  • The assembly seat is now vacant, and a by-election will be held at a later date to choose his successor.
