DKB Decommissions Final ATMs, Shifts Customers to Visa and Retail Cash Options

Citing high costs with falling usage, DKB is directing customers to digital banking supplemented by retail withdrawal services.

Overview

  • The bank shut its last 17 ATMs nationwide on June 30, completing a phase-out that began in September 2023.
  • About 5.8 million customers can now withdraw cash free at foreign Visa ATMs or get up to €200 via cashback at major retailers.
  • ATM deposit functionality has ended, so customers must use Reisebank branches until DKB relaunches its ‘Cash im Shop’ deposit service.
  • DKB says it will reinvest savings from ATM operations into its digital banking platform due to high operating expenses and falling usage.
  • The decision follows a broader German banking trend of trimming physical infrastructure in favour of online financial services.
