DJI Launches Osmo Action 6 With Larger Square Sensor and Variable Aperture

A square 1/1.1-inch sensor with a mechanical iris targets better low-light results for more flexible reframing.

Overview

  • DJI announced a global release that excludes the US for now, as B&H posted product pages and preorder listings for Standard and Adventure kits with optional Macro and FOV Boost lenses.
  • Core hardware upgrades include a 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor, an adjustable f/2.0–f/4.0 aperture, and 50GB of built-in storage.
  • Video features span up to 4K at 120fps in 4:3, 10-bit D-Log M, and up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, with HorizonSteady stabilization now available when recording in 4K.
  • New controls and software include palm Gesture Control, Voice Control, a 4K Custom mode that records the full sensor for later crops, and subject tracking in horizontal modes up to 2.7K60.
  • Audio and ruggedness upgrades include support for two DJI mic transmitters without a separate receiver, built-in mic audio backup, waterproofing to 65.6 feet (197 feet with case), a pressure gauge, roughly four-hour battery life, and operation from -4°F to 113°F.
