Diwali Market Break Oct 19–22, With NSE, BSE to Hold Afternoon Muhurat Trading on Oct 21

The ceremonial session marks the start of Samvat 2082, running for one hour under regular settlement rules.

Overview

  • Official exchange circulars set the Muhurat Trading pre-open at 1:30 pm, the main window from 1:45–2:45 pm, and trade modifications until 2:55 pm on Tuesday, October 21.
  • BSE and NSE will be closed for Diwali-related holidays from October 19 to 22, creating an extended pause in regular sessions except for the one-hour Muhurat window.
  • All orders executed during the Muhurat session will result in normal settlement obligations, as specified by the NSE.
  • The special session will be available across segments including equity cash, equity futures and options, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing.
  • This year’s trading moves from the usual evening slot to the afternoon, and past Muhurat sessions have often ended higher, including 13 of the last 16 years.
