Divorce and Separation Filings Fall in Spain, With Castilla y León Down 13.8% in Q2

Official court data show a steeper decline in contested cases with one of the lowest per‑capita rates recorded in the region.

  • Spain registered 21,348 petitions for divorce and separation in Q2 2025, a 16.7% year‑on‑year decline, according to CGPJ figures reported by Ical and El Norte de Castilla.
  • Castilla y León filed 922 petitions in the quarter, down from 1,069 a year earlier for a 13.8% decrease.
  • Within Castilla y León, courts recorded 615 consensual divorces (−5.2%), 279 contested divorces (−25.8%) and 27 separations, of which 20 were by mutual agreement.
  • Per 100,000 inhabitants, the national filing rate was 43.9, with Murcia highest at 54.9 and Castilla y León at 38.6 among the lowest alongside La Rioja at 33.3 and Madrid at 36.7.
  • Nationally, every procedure type fell: 13,442 consensual divorces (−8.9%), 7,104 contested divorces (−28.1%), 589 consensual separations (−10.4%) and 190 non‑consensual separations (−43.5%).
