Overview

  • The Maynards disappeared in August 2024 when their 28-foot aluminum boat capsized about 16 miles west of Homer, Alaska, and four other passengers were rescued.
  • After the Coast Guard suspended its search, private firms including Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea and Benthic Geoscience offered sonar and remotely operated vehicle support in April.
  • Search teams located the vessel in early May at a depth of 180 feet in Kachemak Bay and used an ROV to verify it as the missing boat.
  • Divers recovered three sets of human remains from the sunken vessel on May 27 and 28 and transported them for positive identification.
  • Next of kin have been notified and volunteer dive teams continue to search the wreck for any additional remains.
