Diver Discovers Significant Mastodon Tusk Off Florida Coast

The 4-foot tusk, found at a depth of 25 feet, may be one of the largest intact specimens recovered in the region.

Overview

Alex Lundberg initially mistook the tusk for a piece of wood.
The tusk measures about 4 feet long and weighs 70 pounds.
The find was made near Venice, Florida, in April 2024.
Lundberg has a permit and must report the find to the Florida Museum of Natural History.
The age and significance of the tusk are yet to be determined.
