Disney's New Short Film Brings Back Robin Williams' Genie Without Using AI

Disney released a new short film called "Once Upon a Studio" celebrating 100 years of animation.
The 9-minute film features over 500 hand-drawn and CGI characters from 85+ Disney films.
Original voice actors like Jodi Benson and Idina Menzel returned, along with archival audio of the late Robin Williams as Genie.
Directors got permission from Williams' estate to use old recordings, denying usage of AI to replicate his voice.
The short debuted on ABC's special "The Wonderful World of Disney: 100 Years of Wonder" on October 16, 2023.
