Disney+ Sets Nov. 4 Launch for The Remarried Empress

A three-episode world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival aims to build global attention for what Disney+ calls its largest Korean drama production to date.

Overview

  • Disney+ announced the series rollout on Aug. 25–26 and will premiere four episodes on Nov. 4, then release two new episodes each Wednesday until the Nov. 25 finale.
  • The show will receive a world premiere screening of three episodes in the Busan International Film Festival’s On Screen section during the Oct. 6–15 festival window.
  • The Remarried Empress is a 10-episode live-action adaptation of a Naver webtoon with roughly three billion views and stars Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young.
  • Disney calls the production one of its biggest and most costly Korean projects, filmed on elaborate palace sets and multiple European locations, and directed by Cho Su-won from scripts by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choong-yeol.
  • Festival reviews and early viewer response in October will be the first public test of whether the built-in webtoon fanbase and Disney+ marketing convert into broader global interest and subscriber engagement in November.
