Disney Licenses Jonas Brothers’ Video Podcast for Disney+ and Hulu
The company plans to use the podcast as event-driven content tied to Camp Rock 3 to boost engagement on its streaming platforms.
Overview
- The Walt Disney Company and iHeartMedia reached a licensing deal to stream the Jonas Brothers’ video podcast Hey Jonas! on Disney+ and Hulu beginning Friday, August 14.
- Hey Jonas! is a conversational video podcast hosted by Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas that offers personal interviews and discussion rather than a scripted sitcom revival.
- Disney timed the August 14 debut to coincide with the release of Camp Rock 3 and has scheduled additional Hey Jonas! segments to air live at D23 that same weekend.
- The licensing pact covers six iHeartMedia podcasts with a staggered distribution split between Disney+ and Hulu, including Pod Meets World arriving on Disney+ and several other shows slated for Hulu.
- Disney says the move reflects a strategy to expand video podcasts on its services to deepen connections with familiar talent and to drive daytime and mobile viewing, and the company did not announce any revival of the Jonas Channel sitcom that ended in 2010.
