Disney announced that Piston Peak National Park will be the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom’s history, continuing the stories and themes that have always run through Frontierland and Liberty Square.

Overview

  • On July 6–7, 2025, Disney permanently closed Rivers of America, the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island to clear space for Piston Peak National Park.
  • The Cars-themed land will feature two new attractions in a Rocky Mountain–inspired setting, including an off-road rally with unique race car characters and a family-friendly water experience.
  • High-tier Pirate Pass and Pixie Dust Annual Passholders were barred on closure dates, a move fans say was meant to limit farewell crowds.
  • Supporters launched petitions and online campaigns condemning the Fourth of July weekend timing as an insult to Americana traditions.
  • Piston Peak is part of a broader shift toward franchise-driven developments at Walt Disney World, with upcoming expansions including a Villains Land and new Indiana Jones and Encanto rides.
