Disney Imagineering Tests Industrial 3D Printing With Jungle Cruise Canoe Prop

Disney's pilot with startup Haddy uses large-format 3D printing to speed scenic fabrication with recyclable polymers.

Overview

  • At Disney Demo Day, Haddy and Walt Disney Imagineering showcased a full-scale 3D-printed canoe confirmed as a Jungle Cruise scenic prop planned for installation soon.
  • The canoe will not carry guests and is intended to blend into the riverbank environment after being styled to match existing Jungle Cruise set pieces.
  • Haddy reports the prop required about 70 robot manufacturing hours versus roughly 1,000 human hours for a comparable traditionally built boat, allowing digital tweaks without molds.
  • The polymer construction can be melted down and reprinted at end of life, a recyclability advantage over fiberglass that could support quicker refresh cycles.
  • The collaboration grew from Disney’s 2025 Accelerator program, and Imagineering is evaluating broader uses such as gates, Monstropolis-style doors, rockwork, and furnishings, with the canoe’s park placement and date still unannounced.
