Disney Extends Construction Permit for Former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Through August 2027
The extension allows Disney to continue removing Star Wars theming to convert the Halcyon into Walt Disney Imagineering offices.
Overview
- Disney filed an extension on Aug. 26, 2026 that renews a general construction permit for 201 S Studio Dr and moves the permit expiration to August 25, 2027.
- The permit names Balfour Beatty Construction LLC as contractor and was submitted by Disney’s Facility Asset Management team, which points to general construction and maintenance work.
- Walt Disney Imagineering has separately filed permits for an adjacent administration building, and visible work at the site includes removal of the Star Wars theming that made the Halcyon a guest attraction.
- The Galatic Starcruiser experience opened March 1, 2022 and closed permanently on Sept. 30, 2023 after lower-than-expected occupancy and reported unprofitability, and current filings and work do not indicate a guest-facing revival.
- Converting the bespoke Halcyon into Imagineering offices repurposes an expensive, specialized asset for behind-the-scenes use and will bring Imagineering staff into the building while keeping it off-limits to park guests.
