Disney+ Expands Content Swap With Astro in Malaysia

This move broadens Astro’s platforms with Disney films while adding Malaysian movies and children’s shows to Disney+ Malaysia to increase local reach.

Overview

  • A deal announced June 30, 2026 confirmed an expansion of an existing agreement that will place Disney-owned films and series on Astro’s channels and apps.
  • Titles listed to move to Astro TV, Astro GO and NJOI include Pirates of the Caribbean, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Maleficent, Brave, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scrubs and New Girl.
  • In return, Disney+ Malaysia will add a slate of Malaysian films and shows such as Zombi Kampung Pisang, Polis Evo 1 & 2, Ola Bola and the children’s series Didi & Friends.
  • Astro customers will be able to access the new Disney content across existing services and can add Disney+ as an add-on via the My Astro app or website, keeping distribution inside Astro’s pay-TV ecosystem.
  • The deal reflects Disney+’s wider strategy of using reciprocal licensing with regional broadcasters to localize catalogs, broaden distribution, expose Malaysian creators to bigger audiences and sharpen competition in local streaming markets.
