Disney Destiny Sets Off on Transatlantic Crossing to Florida

Crew use the repositioning to ready the Wish-class vessel for a November debut from Port Everglades.

  • The new Disney Cruise Line ship began its Atlantic voyage on October 20 en route to its homeport in Fort Lauderdale.
  • Disney formally took delivery of the vessel on October 15 during a handover ceremony in Eemshaven, Netherlands, attended by Joe Schott and Captain Andy McRonald.
  • Constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, the ship floated out in August and conducted sea trials in September.
  • The crossing is expected to take about two weeks and cover more than 5,000 nautical miles with a scheduled call in Funchal, Portugal, according to reporting.
  • Cast and crew are using the voyage to prepare the ship for guests, with the maiden sailing scheduled for November 20.
