Disney asks judge to stay on free speech case against DeSantis

Disney is opposing Governor Ron DeSantis’ request to remove the judge overseeing their lawsuit accusing him of violating their First Amendment rights.
DeSantis argued the judge should be disqualified due to comments he made referencing the fight between DeSantis and Disney in two unrelated cases.
Disney said DeSantis’ argument does not meet the legal standard to remove a judge and judges can refer to widely reported news stories.
Disney’s lawsuit claims DeSantis “orchestrated at every step” a campaign to punish Disney for opposing a bill limiting discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.
The conflict began after DeSantis’ appointees voted to end Disney’s control over municipal services in its Orlando-area theme parks in apparent retaliation.
