Overview

• Disney and WEBTOON announced a new app that consolidates more than 35,000 comics across Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney and 20th Century Studios, built and run by WEBTOON as an expansion of Marvel Unlimited.
• Disney+ subscribers will get a curated selection of comics at no additional cost through the Disney+ Perks program.
• The service will mix traditional page-based reading with WEBTOON’s vertical-scroll format and will commission original series alongside current runs and archived titles.
• Selected comics will be localized for WEBTOON’s Korean and Japanese platforms to extend reach to new readers.
• The companies signed a non-binding term sheet for Disney to acquire 2% of WEBTOON Entertainment, and WEBTOON shares jumped about 58% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
