Overview
- Discord announced the plan on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, and said it will create Server Web Pages for Discoverable Servers starting November 16 with a gradual rollout of message indexing beginning in mid‑December.
- The feature targets Discoverable Servers, which must meet Discord’s activity and safety rules and have at least 1,000 members, and it does not affect private servers, direct messages, or group DMs.
- Users can opt out of having their messages indexed via User Settings > Data & Privacy (Channel Messages) and server admins can pick which public channels appear using Server Settings > Web Presence; regional defaults vary and teen accounts are excluded.
- Discord confirmed messages posted before the mid‑December start will not be included, usernames and avatars will not be shown, and messages published while indexing is enabled will remain findable unless the author deletes them.
- Privacy critics and users have raised worries about conversations being taken out of context and about possible downstream uses such as training AI models, while Discord says the change aims to surface community knowledge that traditionally lived on forums and was hard to find.
