Overview
- Discord announced the change Tuesday and will automatically create public Server Web Pages for all Discoverable Servers starting on November 16, 2026, with individual messages from eligible public channels possibly appearing in search results beginning in mid-December 2026.
- The update applies only to Discoverable Servers, which Discord defines as public communities with at least 1,000 members, and it excludes private servers, direct messages, group DMs, and accounts for people under 18.
- Server administrators can opt specific channels out now via Server Settings > Web Presence, and individual users can toggle off future message indexing in User Settings > Data & Privacy, but opt-outs only stop new posts and do not remove content posted while settings were enabled.
- Discord will hide usernames and avatars on published snippets and says automated conversation summaries may appear on Server Web Pages, but critics worry searchable messages could be copied, aggregated, or used for downstream purposes such as AI training.
- The company piloted the feature with gaming communities including NBA 2K, Rust, and Dead by Daylight and says the change is meant to recover searchable community knowledge that moved from forums into Discord over recent years.
