Dimapur Conference Maps Tech-Driven Crackdown on Northeast Drug Trafficking
Officials pressed for mandatory real-time intelligence sharing through NCORD/ANTF channels.
Overview
- NCB chief Anurag Garg said most heroin and meth enter the region via Myanmar due to Golden Triangle proximity and a porous border, with organised crime and some insurgent cadres involved.
- Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma called the crisis a public-health emergency and a national-security threat, urging a shift to targeting kingpins, tracing money flows, and improving prosecution and rehabilitation.
- Participants were urged to deploy darknet and cryptocurrency analysis, digital forensics, lawful communication surveillance, drones and satellite mapping, ANPR and facial recognition, with full use of NIDAAN and NATGRID.
- Garg noted ANTFs are now in place nationwide as the state-level first line of defence, with calls for joint interrogations within 24 hours and consistent, real-time data routed through NCORD structures.
- Policy proposals included NDPS Act amendments, a dedicated Northeast Anti-Drug Trafficking Agency, state narcotics forensic labs and mobile units, and a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ helpline with rewards for credible tips.
