Overview
- Industry group Adopuma reports July sunbed income down about 20% year on year, with weak demand most visible at Playa de Muro and Can Picafort and some operators shortening hours or sending staff home.
- New systems such as Beach Manager require advance online reservations and assign time slots and locations, so walk-up beachgoers are turned away even when chairs look empty and are banded “Reservado”.
- Several municipalities, including Palmanova, Santa Ponça, Portals Nous and Paguera, have rolled out the portals, while Alcúdia set a minimum four-day reservation that can be extended for the whole season.
- Hotels are bulk-booking front-row loungers through the platforms for guest use, pushing water-edge prices toward about €50 per day and limiting general availability, with some portals only opening between 16:00 and 06:00.
- In a further reset, Palma plans to cut the number of rentable loungers and umbrellas at Playa de Palma by 2026 after this summer’s slump.
