Overview

• The tour opens at Freiberg’s Tivoli, the venue of the Puhdys’ first performance in November 1969.
• A string quintet drawn from Staatsoper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic will accompany Birr.
• Twenty-four tracks, including Puhdys staples like “Das Buch” and selections from Birr’s solo albums, have been rearranged for two violins, viola, cello and double bass.
• The ensemble will perform a classical piece instead of the originally planned Vivaldi “Four Seasons.”
• At 81, Birr has embraced strings despite no prior experience on classical instruments, following solo albums that reached No. 4 in 2023 and 2024.
