Diego Pavia Leads No. 17 Vanderbilt Past No. 10 LSU 31-24, Fuels Heisman Talk

The upset marked Vanderbilt's first 6-1 start since 1950, ending a 10-game skid against LSU.

Overview

  • Pavia went 14-of-22 for 160 yards and a touchdown through the air and ran 17 times for 86 yards and two scores without a turnover.
  • After a 21-yard rushing TD he struck the Heisman pose, and FanDuel shortened his Heisman odds to +1900 following the win as coach Clark Lea publicly backed his candidacy.
  • Pavia has recorded a passing or rushing touchdown in 25 straight games, one of the longest active streaks in the FBS.
  • Vanderbilt never trailed, punted only twice in the fourth quarter, converted 6 of 13 third downs and 2 of 3 fourth downs, and forced LSU to settle for three field goals with one miss.
  • Vanderbilt communications told reporters Pavia was "not able" to do postgame interviews in the media area for unspecified reasons, though he gave a brief on-field TV interview.
