  • Bird officiated 66 Test matches and 69 One Day Internationals between 1973 and 1996, including three Cricket World Cup finals.

  • He received a guard of honour in his final Test at Lord’s in 1996, where he famously gave Mike Atherton out lbw in the first over.
  • A former Yorkshire and Leicestershire batsman, he later served as Yorkshire’s president from 2014 and was honoured with an MBE in 1986 and an OBE in 2012.
