Diarrhoea Outbreak in Bihar’s Darbhanga Kills Two, Hospitalises Over 75

Health teams are treating residents at a makeshift camp following suspicion of contaminated water.

Overview

  • Cases have been concentrated in Mohanpur village of Sadar block, with many of the patients reported to be children.
  • The deceased were identified as Deeplal Yadav and Laxmi Devi, both residents of the village.
  • Patients with worsening symptoms were admitted to Darbhanga Sadar Hospital and Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital after initial visits to primary health centres.
  • Civil Surgeon Dr Arun Kumar confirmed the outbreak and said teams are doing door-to-door checks and distributing antibiotics, ORS, glucose and other medicines.
  • The district administration began disinfection with bleaching powder and advised residents to drink only boiled or filtered water, while extra beds and medical teams were readied at the hospitals.
