- Speaking at the Edinburgh book festival, Diane Abbott said she advised Jeremy Corbyn not to launch a new party because new entrants struggle under first-past-the-post, and she indicated she will not join it.
- A Survation survey of 1,021 self-identified Labour members for LabourList (August 5–9) found 28% would consider supporting the Corbyn–Zarah Sultana movement set for an autumn launch.
- In the same poll, 59% said Keir Starmer should pursue more left-wing policies, 35% wanted faster delivery of his current agenda, and 2% preferred a move to the right.
- A majority of respondents (51%) said a new Corbyn-led party could split the left and increase the chances of a Conservative or Reform UK government, while some saw little impact or risk mainly to the Greens.
