Diamondbacks Reinstate Geraldo Perdomo After Knee Surgery

The Arizona Diamondbacks have welcomed back their All-Star shortstop after a two-month absence due to a knee injury, a move that could provide a much-needed boost to a team struggling to find its footing this season. Geraldo Perdomo, who underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, was reinstated from the injured list and is set to play in the lineup against the Los Angeles Angels. Smith had been performing well, boasting a batting line of .268 with three home runs in just 61 plate appearances. However, the team opted to retain an extra infielder in light of Perdomo's return, indicating that the decision was not based on Smith's performance but rather on roster strategy. Manager Torey Lovullo acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating, “It was a very tough send down. Pavin had been swinging the bat extremely well.”
