Overview
- The Diamondbacks activated Jordan Lawlar on Friday, June 12, and designated veteran catcher Aramis Garcia for assignment to open both a 26-man and 40-man roster spot.
- Lawlar returned after a nine-week rehab split between the Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Reno following a fractured right wrist suffered when he was hit by a 94.3 mph pitch on April 2.
- Arizona used Lawlar’s rehab to continue converting him from shortstop to outfield and plans to keep him in the outfield to add speed and defensive range to a spotty group of outfield options.
- In his first game back at Great American Ball Park, Lawlar made a running catch at the wall, reached on a hit by pitch, stole second, scored the tying run, and later hit a two-run single to break the game open.
- At 23 and with about 128 major-league plate appearances plus prior thumb surgery and a 2024 hamstring strain, Lawlar’s limited experience and injury history will shape playing time and Arizona’s postseason roster decisions.
