Diamondbacks Acquire Former All-Star Eugenio Suarez in Trade with Mariners

Arizona fills third base vacancy and adds power to lineup, while Mariners free up over $11 million for 2024

Eugenio Suarez, former All-Star third baseman, has been traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks gave up right-handed reliever Carlos Vargas and catcher Seby Zavala in exchange for Suarez.
Suarez, who hit 22 home runs last season, fills a vacancy at third base for the Diamondbacks and adds a powerful bat to their lineup.
Suarez is entering the final guaranteed year of a seven-year, $66 million deal he signed in 2018, which includes a $15 million club option for 2025.
The trade frees up over $11 million for the Mariners in 2024 and paves the way for Luis Urías, recently acquired from the Red Sox, to become the everyday third baseman.
