DHS Releases $116 Million for North Carolina Helene Recovery and Mitigation

A state audit says NCDOT stayed within its 2025 spending plan during the prolonged recovery.

  • Homeland Security approved $116 million for Hurricane Helene recovery in North Carolina, including more than $72 million for infrastructure repairs and $44.6 million for hazard mitigation.
  • $34.7 million in FEMA public assistance goes to NCDOT for road and bridge work at more than 300 sites across Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Caldwell, Henderson, Mitchell, Surry and Watauga counties.
