- The DHS clip, posted October 23, showed agents arresting protesters outside an ICE facility in Portland set to a slowed remix of MGMT’s Little Dark Age with the caption “End of the Dark Age, beginning of the Golden Age.”
- MGMT said it issued a takedown for the unauthorized use of its music and described the post as a propaganda video in a brief Instagram statement.
- DHS deleted the post from its X account, kept an Instagram version without the song, and left the original with music on Bluesky as of Saturday night.
- The removal follows similar copyright complaints this month over DHS and ICE posts using The Cure’s Friday I’m in Love and, earlier this summer, Jay‑Z’s Public Service Announcement for ICE recruitment content.
- Little Dark Age gained traction in 2021 and was identified by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue as a frequently used sound among extremist creators on TikTok, despite the track’s critical themes.
