DHS Denies ICE Job Offer to Journalist as Reporter Shares 'Entered on Duty' Record

The public dispute centers on whether portal records alongside an acceptance letter amount to a genuine hire.

Overview

  • After Laura Jedeed’s Slate article on Jan. 13, DHS posted on X that her claim was “such a lazy lie,” asserting she was never offered an ICE job and that a Tentative Selection Letter is not an offer.
  • Jedeed replied on Jan. 14 with a screen recording of the ICE applicant portal showing an “Entered on Duty” status and assignment to New York despite incomplete paperwork and no finished background check.
  • Her account describes a sub–six-minute interview at an ICE career expo in Arlington, Texas, a Sept. 3 email indicating a tentative offer, and a later request for a drug test that she completed.
  • She says the portal also marked her as having passed a fitness test and background check on dates that had not yet occurred, suggesting process or tracking errors.
  • Jedeed appeared on MS NOW to discuss her reporting, while DHS continues to dispute that any final job offer was made and no independent resolution has been reported.
