DHS Defends Agents After NYC Courthouse Clash as Chicago Immigration Blitz Tops 800 Arrests

New York officials are demanding accountability for the hallway confrontation with reporters.

  • At 26 Federal Plaza on Tuesday, masked agents grabbed and shoved journalists during an arrest, injuring Anadolu photojournalist L. Vural Elibol, who was taken out on a stretcher.

  • In Chicago, DHS confirmed 37 detentions in a large South Shore apartment raid as additional arrests were reported across the city on Wednesday, and NBC Chicago reported at least two U.S. citizens were temporarily detained.
  • DHS announced more than 800 arrests in Illinois since Sept. 8 under Operation Midway Blitz, while NIJC filed a court motion alleging an unlawful family detention at Millennium Park and potential violations of the Castañón Nava settlement.
